How a Portuguese postal code works
A postal code in Portugal has the format CP4-CP3: four digits, a hyphen and three digits — for example, 1000-001.
CP4 — 1000
The first four digits (CP4) identify a geographic area — a locality or part of a municipality.
CP3 — 001
The final three digits (CP3) pinpoint the address, which may be a street, a section or a specific recipient.

- What's the difference between a postal code and a zip code in Portugal?

- It is the official place name that accompanies the seven-digit postal code. CTT says to write it in uppercase after the code on the final line of a domestic address.
